WATER FLUORIDATION CHOICE

Have you given any thought to the impact of fluoride in your drinking water and the water with which you use to cook, bathe and swim?

You should.

Please get updated on this very important issue. Water fluoridation amounts to automatic and virtually inescapable exposure to fluoride levels that many professionals believe is causing harm.

Are you drinking fluoridated water? In America, drinking water is fluoridated on a state by state basis. Take a look at the percentage of the U.S. population on public water supply systems receiving fluoridated drinking water, according to the CDC.

Here's what you need to know:

  1. You don't have to be against fluoride supplementation to be against water fluoridation. If you believe in fluoride, why not preserve your right to fluoridate selectively, based on individual need? When fluoride is added to your drinking, cooking and bathing water, it is much more difficult to control how much you're getting.

  2. Fluoride is a toxic waste by-product of the aluminum and phosphate fertilizer industries.

  3. Fluoride is strongly suspected to cause cancer and other illnesses. Chief Chemist Emeritus from the U.S. National Cancer Institute says fluoride causes more human cancer death, faster, than any other chemical.

  4. Fluoride is more acutely toxic than lead.

  5. Advanced symptoms of fluoride poisoning include acidosis, coma, cardiac arrythmias, cardiac failure, respiratory paralysis, death. Other documented symptoms: convulsions, central nervous system depression, severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

  6. Concern about fluoride toxicity is the reason that babies and young children are advised to avoid drinking fluoridated water and refrain from using fluoride toothpaste - they don't know how to spit it out.

  7. All fluoride toothpaste in the U.S. contains contains the accepted estimated minimum lethal dose of fluoride (5mg/kg). Just 42% of a tube of Colgate will kill 2 year old child.

  8. Fluoride causes low thyroid function and is implicated in thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto's and some doctors believe it is to blame for rampant thyroid-related disorders.

  9. Tea drinkers beware. Fluoride is concentrated in tea leaves. Brewed caffeinated black teas have the highest. Herbal teas have the lowest.

  10. Other countries don't agree with the U.S. when it comes to fluoridation.

URGENT ACTION ALERT FOR NEW JERSEY RESIDENTS

If you are concerned about fluoridation of the New Jersey public water supply, please contact your legislative district Senator and members of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee today and say NO to the New Jersey Public Water Supply Fluoridation Act, Senate Bill S2856!

Tell them you are against water fluoridation in New Jersey. A hand written letter is best of all. But you might also consider calling, faxing, and e-mailing. Legislative staff have told us that they must log every piece of correspondence that comes into the office. In the hierarchy of correspondence, signed, handwritten letters top the list. Faxes are next and are especially annoying because staffers must replace the fax paper. E-mails are a dime a dozen. Easy to send, easy to delete. But better than nothing.

Four years ago, the presence and pushback of concerned citizens and activists stopped the fluoridation issue in New Jersey. It's time to do it again. As we know all too well, it's much easier to stop a bill from passing than it is to reverse a law that has been put on the books. Write your letters. If you can't figure out how to do it, contact me and we'll help you.

DID YOU WRITE YOUR LETTER TO GOV-ELECT CHRISTIE YET?

I know it's a busy time. But we have a job to get done. We need to be sure that Chris Christie hears from all of us about the importance of vaccination choice. Hundreds of letters have been written. But let's be serious, folks. He needs to receive many thousands.

If you've already written your letter, thank you. If you sent him an e-mail, please sign a copy and put it in the mail. If you send his letter by snail mail, HERE is the response you will probably receive back (Thank you, Gary!).

Here's his new contact information:

The Honorable Chris Christie
Governor-Elect
State of New Jersey
20 West State Street
PO Box 22
Trenton, NJ 08625-0022
609-341-3000

Send an e-mail copy of your letter to Mark Braden, Deputy Director of the Transition at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . And also send a copy to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it because I'm keeping track!

SAYING THANK YOU?

A few of you have asked me, "Why should I thank him when he hasn't done anything yet?" It's a fair question. Here's my response:

  1. Christie went on national radio with Don Imus. He delivered a signed statement to our community. He took a stand and, in my opinion, it was a significant and courageous one. I think it's deserving of acknowledgement.

  2. If you don't want to say thank you, then don't. Just tell him you want vaccination choice, that you will be watching and waiting, that you want him to keep in touch with us and tell us his plans.

  3. Some of you are unhappy with his position on other issues. I have yet to find anyone with whom I agree, and with whom I'm happy, 100% of the time. Telling him you agree on vaccination choice does not mean you agree with him on everything else. Tell him what you think.

If you're wrestling with the role of politics and issue-specific activism, please read and comment on my blog post: Louise On Politics and Chris Christie.

CHRISTIE'S NEW CHIEF OF STAFF

The Governor-elect and his Transition team are busy putting the pieces of his new Administration in place. Christie just named Pfizer senior vice president Richard Bagger his new Chief of Staff. This is his the first major personnel decision made, with many more to follow.

When I expressed concern, I was firmly advised that I should never question the integrity of an appointment based on prior employment history because senior staff are chosen based on their abilities and they will be charged with implementing the Governor's vision and policies, period.

As I said, we have a job to do. And that is to hold our new Governor accountable, in the very best way possible. This means we have to be polite and respectful, and we have to walk the road with him. We have to tell him why this issue matters to us. We have to tell him why his leadership matters to us. It's hard work.

We expect reciprocity from our leaders. And they should expect the same from us.

SHARING YOUR LETTERS TO CHRISTIE

If you're willing to share your letter to Governor-elect Christie on our website, be sure to let me know. HERE is one of hundreds sent, from Alan G. Phillips, JD, vaccine rights attorney, with many more to come.

DO IT NOW

Write the letters now. If you wait, you probably won't do it.

They need to hear from us... now.

Ask your friends and family to do the same.

If we want a responsive government, then we must keep in touch.

Do you doubt for one moment that toxicity can kill? Check out these photos from China Hush and think about the need to hold government and industry in check.

Most people in the world understand that deadly infectious diseases are directly related to inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene. Check out Water Advocates , the first U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated solely to increasing American support for worldwide access to safe, affordable and sustainable supplies of drinking water and adequate sanitation. The first answer to reducing infectious disease mortality worldwide, bar none, must be clean water. Not vaccines.

DO OR DO NOT. THERE IS NO TRY.

We've been watching a lot of Star Wars in the Habakus household lately. In the inimitable words of Jedi warrior and philosopher Yoda:

"Do or do not. There is no try."

"Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is."

Individual and parent-driven activism is changing the shape of society and the laws of our land. Allied strongly together, we are more powerful than we realize. Write a letter. Make a phone call. Sign a petition. Attend a rally. Use your voice. Do.

The more we do, the more we will do.
