CHILDREN'S GREEN HEALTH EXPO SEPT 12-13

Many kids are already back to school. Parents are thinking about the fall routine and slotting in those important clubs, activities and appointments. I hope you will add SOKHOP to your calendars and join us for what promises to be a knockout event next weekend in Newark, NJ. It's sponsored by a major medical center (UMDNJ - The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey) and the Newark Mayor's office, so we're expecting a strong turnout and wide participation.

Why go?

  • It's important. Our kids and our environment need our help. We're all so busy, it can be difficult to get your family through a typical day or week, let alone think about the ways you can save the world. But stop for a moment and take a peek at the movie trailer "The Age of Stupid" that I just added to the video page of my new website. They ask a simple question: Why didn't we act when we had a chance to save ourselves? Is the filmmaker telling us that it's too late? Or perhaps we're being goaded and rightfully so. Whether we have children, grandchildren or young people we love, we all have a stake in the future. What kind of world do our kids deserve to inherit?

  • You'll learn something. Take a look at the speakers and be inspired. There's something for everyone. Visiting the exhibitors' booths alone is worth the trip. And if you're worried about a special child, you'll find support and lots of great information.

  • Get started! Have you been thinking about composting at home or a recycling program in your church or school? Maybe you're considering changing doctors and want to hear what a "green pediatrician" sounds like? Sometimes, all you need is a nudge.

  • Support the advocacy community. Passionate, dedicated people are working hard to make a difference and create change. Pick up flyers and brochures, sign petitions, volunteer, and learn about upcoming events in your area.

  • Bring someone or two. Maybe you are already involved and up to speed on some of these issues, but your exhortations are falling on deaf ears. Invite a friend or family member to join you. It can be even more effective to smile, keep quiet and let others do the talking.

  • It's a low-cost way to have a lot of fun. There will be live music, free organic food tastings, crafts and giveaways. You'll feel the spirit of community, mingling with likeminded people. It's not too late to register and you can't beat the price. Online registration is $10, it's $15 at the door, and kids under 15 are free.

JERSEY GIRLS SPEAK UP!

Take a look at the September 2009 issue of Natural Awakenings. I'm pleased to be featured along with two terrific New Jersey activists, Nancy Massotto and Dawn Noble who will both be speaking at SOKHOP. Here's the PDF version of Jersey Girls Speak Up: page 14 and page 15.

If any of you are interested in helping out, I'd love your company at the Life Health Choices booth for a couple hours on Saturday or Sunday. E-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it !

And please attend my talk. I'll be speaking in back-to-back sessions on Saturday, September 12. Be sure to stop by and say hello, after my presentation or at the Life Health Choices booth.

ROLE OF THE COUNTY SHERIFF?

Have you heard of Sheriff Richard Mack?. He has written a short book called The County Sheriff - America's Last Hope. Please take a look and considering buying and sharing the book. The sheriff is generally the highest law enforcement officer of the county. Sheriff Mack reminds us that the county sheriff has the power and responsibility to defend its citizens against all enemies. Depending on your views, this could include positions taken by the Federal Government which challenge and jeopardize your health and well-being.

Read the Model States Emergency Health Powers Act and do your own research to learn about the laws that were passed following 9/11. Nearly all fifty states have passed some or all of the provisions in this model federal legislation.

Some thoughtful activists are encouraging us to contact our county sheriffs and discuss concrete measures that can be taken if these laws result in mandated vaccines and forced quarantine. President Obama has stated that the swine flu vaccination program this fall will be voluntary. But we all know that the H1N1 situation is fluid, headlines can change daily, and public health officials speak of the possibility of viral mutation and reassortment. Stay tuned for more. And if this piques your interest, send me an e-mail!

TAKE ACTION

  1. Write your swine flu letters to our politicians and school superintendents. If you're a medical doctor, we have a special version of the letter for you. Click HERE for contact information.

  2. Tell Merck you haven't forgotten about their promise to resume making monovalent (individual) MMR vaccines. We need to respond just as strongly with round two of our letter writing campaign.

  3. Please read this post about our right to sue vaccine makers in civil court and carefully consider organizations that might be willing to sign this "Friend of the Court" petition.

Forward this information to everyone you know and ask them to do the same.

Have you checked out the running list of Breaking News items on the Life Health Choices website lately? We've logged about 600 stories in just two months or so. Take a look at the titles and click on a few which pique your interest. Quarterly archives will appear HERE.

FEATURED IMMUNE SUPPORT INGREDIENT: SAMBUCUS (ELDERBERRIES!)

Did you know that they've been used for centuries to cure the symptoms of colds and the flu? They contain anthocyanins, a powerful flavonoid. Located in the pigment of this fruit, these antioxidants have the ability to stimulate your body's immune system to fight unwelcome invaders. In placebo-controlled, double-blind studies, sambucus has been found to effectively treat influenza. Elderberry inhibits neuraminidase, the enzyme used by the virus to spread infection to host cells. If you're curious, read more about it in Prevention, Wikipedia and Wildman Steve Brill.
