December 1, 2009 Dear Governor- Elect Christie: Thank you! Thank you for having the courage to stand up and speak out for the vaccine choice community. You may have noticed we are a sizable community and growing larger every day. As an example of this, I am the parent of two healthy children. Yet, I have enthusiastically joined this community simply because I’ve done my homework. I am aware that New Jersey is the autism capital of America. I am aware of the adverse effects that too many vaccines given too quickly can cause. Thankfully I’ve had people in my life (one being a New Jersey-based MD in family practice) who have educated me to the facts and guided me in creating my own, much more spaced out, vaccine schedule. My children are healthy. I currently tell anyone who will listen about the dangers and risks involved in our state’s mandated and (in my opinion) way to aggressive vaccination schedule. Regular moms and dads just like me are mobilizing and joining the fight. I thought it important for you to know my husband and I voted for you based on your stance on vaccine choice. Many of my friends and neighbors did the same. We are hopeful and looking forward to your leadership. Having two children that will be starting school within the next few years, I feel your leadership will directly affect my ability to make the best possible choices on this issue. Choice is the key word. Please empower me to do what I know is right for my family and I promise you the responsibility will not be taken lightly. One of your promises was to give parents like me a “seat at the table”. I would love to know your plans for this and what specific steps you’ll be taking to fulfill your promises. We are listening. Please keep in touch with us. Again, I thank you and look forward to your leadership. Sincerely, Rebecca Lynch Middletown, New Jersey |
