My War Against Household Toxins

Four years ago, I waged a personal war against household toxins.  We gave away, recycled and threw out most of the stuff in our house. Ok, that's a slight exaggeration.  But not much.  Ask my husband about it.   Five beds and box springs, plastic toys, teflon-lined pots and  rice cooker, aluminum baking pans, Tupperware, sippy cups, plastic bowls, cups and spatulas. I tossed out our shampoo, body lotion, sunscreen, bubble bath and soap.  All my make-up.  And I heaved the cleaning products  - the bottles of Clorox, Tide, Downy, Soft Scrub, Windex, Comet, Cascade, Cling, Tilex, Mr. Clean.  We then replaced the discarded items.  We bought organic rubber mattresses and pillows and organic bedding.  We bought wood toys, All Clad stainless pots, stainless pans and cookie sheets, glass storage containers.  I compared notes with friends and we shared our finds: non-toxic sunscreen, soap and make-up.  Some of our favorites will be featured  in our upcoming eStore.

The Non-Toxic Cleansers Don't Work

I had a tough time with the household cleaners.  You know, the ones you buy at Whole Foods.  We used them dutifully. But they didn't work really well.  You probably know what I'm talking about.  There's a little bit of a film on the windows.  The shower scum comes back more quickly.  I thought I'd solve the problem by getting a heavy-duty, industrial grade steam vapor cleaner.  Kill mold and mildew with hot water.  BRILLIANT!  Until I discovered that it eroded marble and melted grout.  So we ended up on an unsatisfying cycle.  We'd use the non-toxic stuff for a month or two.  And then we'd cave, kick the kids out of the house, open the windows, and... hose down the shower with bleach.

Is anyone else annoyed that the products don't work well?  What's that about?  They're not cheap, that's for sure!  Here's the problem.  There haven't been any great alternatives.  So you're stuck.  Chemicals  - clean house.  No chemicals - sort of clean house.  Your choice.

Learn About WowGreen

I learned about WowGreen from Michelle Cicciarella.  She heard me speak at the DDR Toxic Dinner in New York City in July.  We talked briefly.  I was skeptical and not particularly interested.  But she just smiled.  And then a big box of WowGreen products arrived in the mail.  Clever girl.  So she got me.  Here's why I love WowGreen:

  1. It works.  The products are enzyme-based.  The enzymes eat the mildew and grime.  Very cool.

  2. It's green.  The enzymes aren't toxic.  You don't aerosolize the chemicals when you shower.  You don't wonder if your kids are bathing in toxic cleanser residues.

  3. It's environmentally conscious.  You buy the the plastic spray bottles once.  When you run out of product, you keep the plastic bottle.  WowGreen sells their cleaning products in small plastic  pouches, just like they do in Europe and Japan.  It's brilliant.  You mix it with your water at home.  Makes sense, right?  You're not paying to ship water.  When you buy Tide or Windex, you paid to ship the water.  The cost is embedded in the price.  (Not the cost of the Texas-sized plastic waste mound in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but that's another matter.)

  4. It's not more expensive.  If you clip coupons, buy generic or load up at Costco, maybe that's not true.  But you're probably not getting the non-toxic stuff, either.  If you factor in your time, a bit of gas, and the wear and tear on your body, you're definitely coming out ahead.

  5. It's easier.  You figure out the products you like.  You figure out how often you need them.  You buy them the way it works best for you.  I already buy some dry groceries at Amazon.  The stuff arrives on your front doorstep.  One less thing to schelp home.

The network marketing part of WowGreen can make it seem more complicated.  But ignore that part. You can just figure out if you like the product.  If you do, buy it.  It's that simple.

Buy WowGreen and Support Life Health Choices

Here's the fun part.  If you like WowGreen, you can buy it and support Life Health Choices at the same time. Try one of these three choices:

  1. Buy a trial kit and check it out.  Four products plus the stain pen.  Go to the WowGreen website, click on Shop Now (upper right corner), scroll down to the bottom and select the Green Trial Pack.   If you live near me and can pick it up, it's $20.  Online, with shipping, it's about $27.  Not a huge financial commitment and a small part of it goes to Life Health Choices.

  2. Test drive a few products.  Go to the upper right corner of the WowGreen website and click on Shop Now.

  3. Buy a Green Your Home Pack.  This is the way it makes the most sense, cost-wise.  You get a full-sized version of each product, you get the bottles so you only need pouches in the future, and... you get 20% off all your purchases forever.

It's a win-win-win.  You reduce the toxins in your home.  You do your part to clean the environment.  And you support Life Health Choices. If you like the work we're doing and you want to support us, this is a nice way to help us out.  It allows us to keep doing what we do without having to charge a membership fee.  (Mercola and NaturalNews sell stuff, too!)
